1CSHCN defined based on meeting at least one of the following FIVE screening criteria because of ANY medical, behavioral, or other health condition that has lasted or is it expected to last 12 months or longer:
a. Currently uses or needs prescription medicine.
b. Currently uses or needs more medical care or mental health or educational services than is usual for most children of the same age.
c. Is limited or prevented in any way in his/her ability to do the things most children of the same age do.
d. Currently needs or gets special therapy, such as physical, occupational, or speech therapy.
e. Has an emotional, developmental, or behavioral problem for which s/he needs treatment or counseling.
CSHCN definition based on five screening criteria is similar to the CSHCN definition used by the National Survey of Children's Health.
CSHCN based on two screening criteria definition is used as CSHCN subgroup in CHAMP 2005-2007 & 2010-2012 webtables.)
2Use caution in interpreting cell sizes less than 50. N = numerator, % = Percentage, C.I.(95%) = Confidence Interval (at 95 percent probability level).
Percentages are weighted to population characteristics and therefore cannot be calculated exactly from the numbers in this table.
39th-12th grade includes those in college or other post high school education.
4Health Insurance categories: PRIVATE = State Employee Health Plan, Blue Cross/Blue Shield of NC, or other private health insurance plan purchased from an employer or directly from insurance company.
